Welcome to the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, Department of Medicine, Cook County Health. Nephrologists are internists who specialize in treating patients with kidney disease and hypertension.
Our mission is to:
- Provide outstanding care for adult patients with kidney disease and hypertension.
- Train medical students, residents, and fellows.
- Conduct state-of-the-art clinical and translational research into causes, prevention and treatment of kidney disease and hypertension
The increasing prevalence of kidney disease and continuing “epidemic” of hypertension among residents of Cook County provides a unique setting for outstanding patient care, clinical training and research in Nephrology and hypertension.
Among the Best
U.S. News & World Report recently recognized our Division of Nephrology as “high performing” among Best Regional Hospitals in Nephrology.
Our faculty is comprised of dedicated and highly experienced clinicians, teachers and researchers with special expertise in the assessment and treatment of kidney diseases such as Lupus nephritis, Diabetic kidney disease, Chronic kidney disease, HIV related kidney disease and resistant hypertension.
The division has a very busy dialysis unit at the John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital and maintains close ties with chronic dialysis facilities city wide. We also provide “24-7″ consultations for the Cook County Health (CCH) and its affiliates.
We have an outstanding teaching program offering medical students, residents and fellows hands-on clinical experience, didactic sessions including morning reports, case-based resident lectures, clinical case, research and radiology conferences and a popular monthly Biopsy conference that attracts nephrologists and trainees from the entire Illinois medical district and beyond.
Our clinical collaborative research group participates in clinical trials with special interest in Diabetes, Hypertension, Chronic kidney disease, HIV and primary glomerular diseases. We have a dedicated basic and translational science research group with special interests in proteinuria, organ regeneration and urinary biomarkers of kidney disease. The Division offers a combined fellowship with the section of Nephrology, University of Illinois at Chicago.
