Below are answers to commonly asked questions and issues regarding the employment process in Cook County Health (CCH).

How do I apply?

How can I check the status of my application?

To check the status of your application, please log into your job page, click on the job in question and then click “View Submission”.  If you need additional assistance, contact Human Resources at (312) 864-0430 and have the job number and your e-mail address handy.

I am locked out of Taleo, how do I reset my password?

Please click the “Forgot my Password” option at the bottom of the log in screen, answer the security questions and wait for the reset.  If you are still not successful please call the Recruitment Hotline Number at 312-864-0430.

How long is a job posting open for applications?

Most jobs are typically posted for a period of 14 days. Please reference the job posting for its opening and closing date. Applications are not accepted after the job posting has closed.

What if I don’t see a position of interest to me? Can I send my resume and cover letter to the hiring manager?

If you don’t see a position of interest to you, we strongly encourage you to create a profile in Taleo ( and set up e-mails alert so you will receive immediate notifications when vacancies are posted. You may not send your resume and cover letter directly to a hiring manager.

What is a promotional and/or transfer job?

Some positions are listed as ‘promotional’ or transfers on the posting. In cases of promotion and transfer, County employees shall have first preference with union considerations if applicable, provided that the employee has the ability and qualifications to perform the required work. Applications for promotional positions are available only to current Cook County employees.

Does CCH hire Veterans?

CCHHS honors our Veterans, and welcomes them to apply for positions within CCH. When applying for employment, preference is given in the application process to honorably discharged Veterans who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States for more than 180 consecutive days, or during War Time. To take advantage of this preference a Veteran must:

  • Meet the minimum qualifications for the position.
  • Identify themselves as a Veteran on their employment application by answering “yes” to the question, “Are you a military veteran?”.
  • Attach a copy of their DD 214, DD215 or NGB 22 (Notice of Separation) at time of application filing. If you have multiiple DD 214s, 215s, or NGB 22s, please submit the one with the latest date. Coast Guard must submit a certified copy of the military separation from either the Department of Transportation (before 9/11) or Department of Homeland Security (after 9/11).

Veterans must provide original applicable discharge papers at the time of interview.

Does CCH hire new nurses?

CCHHS hires new nurses. Please reference each individual job posting for the specific minimum requirements.

Does CCH perform drug testing and/or background checks?

All new employees will be required to submit to a drug test and background check.

When does CCH hire?

We hire and post jobs year round. We would encourage you to check the site regularly or create a profile for you can be notified in real time when a position opens up that is of interest to you.

Does CCH sponsor applicants?
