The Division of General Internal Medicine provides general medical care across a continuum of hospital – ambulatory – community care settings, for adults with complex, chronic conditions. We deliver high quality care of the whole person, while valuing communication, patient safety, patient care experience.

The Division of General Internal Medicine has a long track record of developing and evaluating new findings  in health care delivery. Our team has also  adapted and disseminated best-practices in primary care, all tailored the needs of our patient population.

The Division of General Internal Medicine at John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County provides Post-Graduates, Medical Students and other Healthcare Providers comprehensive training opportunities through a collaborative partnership with Rush Medical College.  Participants in our program gain real-time experience with complex patients in the following focus areas:

  • Rush Medical College Medical Student training experiences in General Internal Medicine Clinics at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital
  • Rush Medical College/ John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital Integrated Residency Training Program in Primary Care Internal Medicine
  • General Preventive Medicine/Public Health Residency Program at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital
  • John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital/Rush University Medical Center Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship
  • Outpatient Resident Rotations including the Women’s Health Rotation, the Ambulatory Medicine Rotation and the Geriatric Medicine Rotation, taken by all internal medicine residents
