Anesthesia for neonates, infants and children requires an understanding of the manner in which pediatric patients differ anatomically, psychologically, physiologically and pharmacologically from adults, and how these differences affect the anesthesiologist’s ability to maintain homeostasis and provide necessary operative conditions during surgery and post-anesthesia recovery period.
The pediatric anesthesiology service at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County is comprised of five board-certified pediatric anesthesiologists.
Our residents also participate in two additional Pediatric Anesthesiology Rotations, one at the prestigious Laurie’s Children’s Hospital of Northwestern University in downtown Chicago, and the other at suburban Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois, about five miles west of downtown Chicago. All institutions offer anesthesia care and supervision by board-certified pediatric anesthesiologists.
