Below is information regarding orientation, orientation modules, physician impairment, duty hours, campus map, library account, fatigue & sleep, residents checking out, licensing assistance, house staff manual, collective bargaining agreement & housing options.
Physician Impairment
The AMA states that Physician Impairment “is the inability to practice medicine with reasonable skill and safety to patients by reason of physical or mental illness, including alcoholism or drug dependence.” Others state that it’s a waste of a good physician. At John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital, we encourage recognition and then getting help. Click below to learn more.
Duty Hours
John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital strongly supports the mandated duty hours of the ACGME and the House Staff Association. In order to ensure compliance, many of your programs will require logging your duty hours on New Innovations. Please click on the link below to learn more.
Campus Map
We are located in the Illinois Medical District which is just south of the Eisenhower Expressway (US 290) and served by both the Pink and Blue lines of the CTA. The campus map can help you navigate between Stroger buildings, University of Illinois and Rush.
Rush Library Account
In addition to our own resources, all John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital house staff are entitled to remote access to Rush’s extensive on-line collection of books, Medline searches with printable articles, and on-line journals. Please click the link below for instructions regarding signing up for an account.
Fatigue & Sleep
Don’t Let Colleagues Drive Home Fatigued!
Understanding the importance of Duty Hours Regulations and prioritizing sleep are essential to quality of care, your personal health and your emotional well being.
Remember:
- It has been shown that we have difficulty recognizing self-impairment due to fatigue.
- MVA’s are twice as likely when you driving home after an extended shift (overnight call).
- If you recognize a colleague that is fatigued and is driving home, PUT THEM IN A CAB and we will reimburse their cost to get home and back the next day!
