Epidemiologist IV (STI Program Manager): Communicable Disease Control Unit

JOB SUMMARY                                    AFSCME 1276 ONLY                                                         
Under the supervision of the Director of the Communicable Disease Control Unit, this position functions as the lead Epidemiologist in the surveillance and control of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) within suburban Cook County. Supervises program staff in all areas of STI surveillance and field operations. Represents the agency at specified meetings and responds to inquiries from the public, media and health care professionals.  Provides guidance and oversight for prevention and control activities for STI outbreaks that may arise. Assures unit compliance with performance standards and reporting requirements established by the Illinois Department of Public Health, laws pertinent to communicable disease control, and agency policies. Provides information and training to healthcare providers on reporting requirements and control measures for STIs. Keeps the Director fully informed of pertinent information and follows through on assignments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree or higher in Epidemiology/Biostatistics, or master’s degree or higher in Public Health, with a concentration in Epidemiology, Biostatistics and or Infectious Diseases is required. (Original transcripts must be presented at time of interview).

• Two (2) years prior experience working in public health programs such as communicable disease control, or control and education of sexually transmitted infections, or HIV/AIDS control is required.

• Availability for on-call duty is required.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Proficiency in statistical computations used in Public Health data collection, trending, and reporting, is required.

• Prior experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity is required.

• Ability to travel throughout Cook County is required.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Fluency in English and Spanish written and verbal communication is preferred.

• Proficiency in the utilization of word processing and spreadsheet applications is preferred.

• Competence in software programs used for epidemiologic analysis such as SAS, Epi Info, SPSS and Stata, is preferred.
